In the recent newsletter Caroline asked for suggestions on future subjects for the One Artist zooms. Some time ago on Sky Arts I saw a programme on American painter Justin Wadlington, known as the Blind Eye Artist. I just thought I would put his name forward. He came across as a more genuine/likeable person than Jean-Michel Basquiat.
That’s an interesting suggestion! I’m not sure I’m qualified, though I like the suggestions linked to contemporary art, something to investigate…
Suggestion for One Artist sessions – Tracey Emin.
Given her body of work, her support of young artists in Margate, her importance in the contemporary art scene, her health, her feminism and her impact, I think she’s worth consideration. Her doors on the entrance to the NPG alone, would make me sign up to a session!! She may require two sessions Caroline !!
Thank you Norma, I have been to the NPG a couple of times in the last year & have to say I haven’t even noticed the Tracey Emin doors. I will make a point of looking next time.

Some years ago we went to an exhibition of Yayoi Kusama at Tate Modern. She might be worth doing a session on as her creativity and use of colour are quite something. Though not a great lover of ‘installation art’, I found that side of her work quite distracting and thought provoking!
I found the first session on Mexican Muralsim very interesting and the importantance of print making. This reminded me of the time I was working in London as a co-ordinator of a Job Creation Scheme including one project, renovating a basement into a Printshop:
In the 1970s, the Paddington Printshop – an Anarchist-run studio in west London – played a significant role in this history, supporting and promoting the hard work of squatters networks, feminist groups, anti-racist campaigns, and community events such as the burgeoning Notting Hill carnival.
It’s worth looking online at their archived posters!
Oh Judith how interesting. I spent a happy time looking at the archived posters on Paddington Print Shop’s website. It reminded me of London in the 1970’s and 80’s, with the political book shops and the campaigning groups and the protest marches … they were energising days! Thanks for sharing …
Yes, and I was living in a tiny bedist on the top floor of a grand Georgian Terrace (Kent Terrace NW1)🙂
It’s funny Judith, we were renting an attic flat in a large Victorian house in Muswell Hill (N10). We could have passed each other on a Sunday morning at Camden Market!
